Lesson 5 – Creation (PreK)

Lesson 5

The Days of Creation – Day 5

Unit Game

Days of Creation Hide & Seek

Have them find the things hidden around the room and when they find them ask them what they are. If they don’t know, tell them. Steer the conversation to the fact that God made each thing they found. Ask them about their favorite thing God created. Have them sort and put away the items as you ask about them.

PRAYER TIME

Have them find their circle and sit down

Today we are going to practice thankful prayers! Let’s start by thanking God for all the wonderful things He created for us to enjoy. What are some of the things God created on Days 1, 2, 3, and 4? Allow guesses and let them look at the creation numbers to remember the days they have learned about so far, or use the Creation Book.

Ask who wants to pray first, hand the Prayer Buddy to them and help them think of a prayer. Give turns.

LESSON

Get out the Days of Creation Numbers and hand them out to children as evenly as possible. Tell them to hold onto them until they hear their day. Make sure they know which number they’re holding!

We are going to read our book about the days of Creation! Do you know who created everything? . . . . That’s right, God did! And who was there before anything at all was created? God was! That’s because He is.… ? See if they can remember the word eternal. He is eternal! That means He has always been there and always will be.

Do you remember our Bible verse? Allow guesses.

Let’s say it all together!

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” Repeat it three times if needed.

How long did it take God to create the world? Allow answers.

It took Him only 6 days! And on the 7th day He rested from His work of creating everything. When God rested on the 7th day He called it holy. Do you remember what that means? Allow guesses.

That means the seventh day is special and different from all other days and it belongs to God. We are supposed to rest and worship God on that day. That’s why we worship God on Sundays and give that time to God.

We are going to read our book again and I’ll need your help. We are going to sing about each day of creation to the tune of Frere Jacques. Sing or hum the tune so they know it.

When we sing about your day of creation, you get to put your number on the wall, so pay attention!

Show them the wall or board where you want them to stick their number when you get to it. Show them the Creation Book and read/sing it to them. On each day have them put their number on the wall/board.

Very good job singing and paying attention! Wasn’t that fun? God created so many beautiful things didn’t He?

Now we are going to work on our own Creation Book again.

CRAFT

Get out the supplies and the page for the Day 5 craft and help them put the stickers for the fish and birds on their paper for Day 5, or draw their birds and fish.

Suggested Discussion:

Do you know what God created on Day 5? Allow answers.

That’s right! All of the flying creatures and swimming creatures!

Can you name one flying creature for me? Can you name a flying creature with feathers? What about a flying creature with fur? What about a flying creature with antennas? Allow answers.

Wow there are so many kinds of flying creatures, not just birds! Do you like honey? You can thank God for making bees to make the honey then.

Hand out honey cereal if you brought it for a snack.

And what do bees use to make honey? Allow guesses.

They use nectar—which is like sugar water—from flowers! When did God create flowers? Allow guesses.

He created them on day 3, so the birds who drink nectar, like hummingbirds, and the insects who drink nectar, like bees and butterflies would have had lots to drink by the time they were created, right?

Can you name a swimming creature? What’s your favorite swimming creature? What is a swimming creature that has no fins? What about one with sharp teeth? Water would be really boring without swimming creatures right? Allow answers.

Let’s thank God for making so many beautiful flying and swimming creatures!
