Lesson 1
The Days of Creation – Day 1
Unit Game
Have them find the things hidden around the room and when they find them ask them what they are. If they don’t know, tell them. Steer the conversation to the fact that God made each thing they found. Ask them about their favorite thing God created. Have them sort and put away the items as you ask about them.
PRAYER TIME
Have them find their circle and sit down
Today we are going to practice thankful prayers! Let’s start by thanking God for all the wonderful things He created for us to enjoy.
Ask who wants to pray first, hand the Prayer Buddy to them and help them think of a prayer. Give turns.
LESSON
Get out the Days of Creation Numbers and hand them out to children as evenly as possible. Tell them to hold onto them until they hear their day. Make sure they know which number they’re holding!
We are going to read a book together about the days of Creation! Do you know who created everything? Wait for guesses.
That’s right, God did! Before there was anything at all created, God was there! That’s because He is eternal. That means He has always been there and always will be. Isn’t that amazing?
The Bible says that in the beginning God created the heavens and earth. Can you say that?
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” Try to get them to repeat it three times.
This is going to be our memory verse! We are going to try to remember it every Sunday.
Do you know how long it took God to create the world? Wait for guesses
It took Him only 6 days! And on the 7th day He rested from His work of creating everything. Do you think you would be tired? Wait for answers.
We are going to read this book together about each day that God created things and I’ll need your help. We are going to sing about each day of creation to the tune of Frere Jacques. Do you know that tune? Sing or hum the tune so they know it.
When we sing about your day of creation, you get to put your number on the wall, so pay attention!
Show them the wall or board where you want them to stick their number when you get to it. Show them the Creation Book and read/sing it to them. On each day have them put their number on the wall/board.
Very good job singing and paying attention! Wasn’t that fun? God created so many beautiful things didn’t He?
Now we are going to start making our own Creation Book.
CRAFT

Get out supplies for this week’s craft. Hand out their Day 1 page. Help them glue the light and dark triangles on the page. Be careful that they line up correctly to make a rectangle. They have to be cut and flipped the correct way!
Suggested Discussion:
Do you like the light that God created? Aren’t you glad He made light? Sometimes the dark can be scary because we can’t see what’s in front of us. The Bible says that God’s Word is like a light for us, like a flashlight. It helps us see where to go and what to do. Have you ever hidden in the closet during the day? It’s dark in there with the door shut right? But if you open the door it lets the light in! God created that light. The Bible tells us that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.
Turn the lights off and on to show them the difference.
God created what makes it light in the room! The light chases the dark away! It’s amazing right?
Open the door with the lights off to show how it “chases” away the darkness.
God wants to chase away the darkness in our lives and in our hearts. Sin in our hearts can make them feel dark and scary, but God sent Jesus to take away the sin in our hearts. Jesus is like the light, and when we open the door to Him, He chases the darkness of sin away. Do any of you want to open the door to Jesus and let Him chase away the sin in your heart?
Take time to pray with them and ask Jesus to chase away the sin in their hearts. Take your time! This is the most important part of the lesson for a child who is truly opening their heart to Jesus.
