Lesson 2
The Days of Creation – Day 2
Unit Game
Have them find the things hidden around the room and when they find them ask them what they are. If they don’t know, tell them. Steer the conversation to the fact that God made each thing they found. Ask them about their favorite thing God created. Have them sort and put away the items as you ask about them.
PRAYER TIME
Have them find their circle and sit down
Today we are going to practice asking prayers! When there is something you want or need who do you usually ask? Allow answers.
If you’re hungry do your parents want you to whine about it or do they want you to just ask them for food? Well, God wants us to ask him when we need things too! He doesn’t want us to worry about it or whine about it. The Bible says God knows what we need even before we ask, but He wants us to trust Him and ask Him for everything.
Ask who wants to pray first, hand the Prayer Buddy to them and help them think of a prayer. Give turns.
LESSON
Get out the Days of Creation Numbers and hand them out to children as evenly as possible. Tell them to hold onto them until they hear their day. Make sure they know which number they’re holding!
We are going to get out our book about the days of creation again! Do you remember who created everything? . . . . That’s right, God did! And before there was anything at all created, who was there? Allow guesses.
God was there! That’s because He is eternal. That means He has always been there and always will be. Is anyone else eternal? Allow guesses. Is my cat (or dog) eternal? Does it have no beginning and no end? Are you eternal? No, we are not eternal because we do have a beginning, when God created us. But we can live forever with God because of what Jesus did for us. What did Jesus do for us? Allow guesses. Jesus died for us! He died to save us from sin, so we can go and be with Him forever when He returns!
Now we are going to practice our Bible verse! The Bible says that in the beginning God created the heavens and earth. Can you say that?
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” Try to get them to repeat it three times.
Do you know how long it took God to create the world? Wait for guesses.
It took Him only 6 days! And on the 7th day He rested from His work of creating everything. Was He tired? Allow guesses. No! He wasn’t tired, but He stopped working on the seventh day to show us that He wants us to rest from working, just like He did.
We are going to read this book together about each day that God created things and I’ll need your help. We are going to sing about each day of creation to the tune of Frere Jacques. Sing or hum the tune so they know it.
When we sing about your day of creation, you get to put your number on the wall, so pay attention!
Show them the wall or board where you want them to stick their number when you get to it. Show them the Creation Book and read/sing it to them. On each day have them put their number on the wall/board.
Very good job singing and paying attention! Wasn’t that fun? God created so many beautiful things didn’t He?
Now we are going to work on our own Creation Book again.
CRAFT

Get out supplies for this week’s craft and your balloon. Hand out their Day 2 page. Help them glue the “clouds” and water on the page. I used cotton balls and tissue paper.
Suggested Discussion:
Do you know what God created on Day 2? Allow guesses.
Take a really, really deep breath! Breathe in dramatically.
Even bigger!! Breathe in harder.
Now let it out!! What did we just breathe in? Allow guesses.
Air! That’s right!
Take out a balloon and blow it up.
What did I just blow into this balloon? Allow answers.
Air! That’s right! Do you like balloons? If you do you can thank God for them because without air it looks like this! Let the air out of the balloon.
It looks really sad now right?
On day two God created the sky and clouds and atmosphere. Earth is the only planet God put oxygen (air) on, because He loves us! He created earth to be the perfect place for humans to live.
What happens when you don’t breathe? Allow guesses.
That’s right, you could die! So we should be really thankful for the air God made. It means He cares for us every day. Every breath we breathe is a gift from God!
